Team Member
Stéphane Hallegatte is a Senior Economist with the Climate Policy Team of the World Bank. His work covers green growth strategies, urban economics and environmental policies, climate change vulnerability and adaptation, and disaster risk management. He was the lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change for its Fifth Assessment Report. He co-led, with Marianne Fay, the World Bank reports “Inclusive Green Growth: The Pathway to Sustainable Development” and “Decarbonizing Development: Three Steps toward a Zero-Carbon Future.” He also published dozen of articles in international journals and several books, including “Natural disasters and climate change – an economic perspective.” Most recently, he led the World Bank’s report entitled « Shock Waves: Managing the Impacts of Climate Change on Poverty » and was the lead author of the 2016-2020 World Bank Group’s Climate Change Action Plan. Stephane Hallegatte obtained an engineering degree from the École Polytechnique and has a PhD in economics from the École des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris.
